At Belvidere School we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE). PSHE equips pupils to live healthy, safe, responsible and balanced lives.

Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) forms part of our PSHE programme, which is taught throughout the school, in every year group, by a specialist team of teachers. RSE is monitored and reviewed regularly by the staff and governing body. All teaching in RSE takes place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values. RSE helps students to build their confidence, resilience and self-esteem, to identify and manage risk, make informed choices and understand what influences their decisions. It enables pupils to recognise, accept and shape their identities, to understand and accommodate difference and change, to manage emotions and to communicate constructively in a variety of settings. Developing an understanding of themselves, empathy and the ability to work with others, helps pupils to form and maintain healthy and safe relationships.

As a school community, we are committed to working in partnership with parents/carers. We have been consulting with pupils and staff over the last few weeks to ensure our Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum meets the government’s requirements, as well as the needs of our pupils.

We have strived to ensure that our curriculum reflects:
• Our pupils’ age and maturity levels, as well as their cultural and religious backgrounds
• The values of our school community
• Every pupil’s learning needs
• What pupils need to know to be healthy and safe in school, in their personal relationships and in the wider world

We have updated our RSE policy and the proposed curriculum, which can be found below:
